Only 36 Percent of UK Club Royalties Go to the Right People, Report Finds

An investigation by Fair Play found that an estimated £5.7 million in electronic music royalties is being misallocated each year

A new report has found that only 36 percent of UK club performance royalties are allocated to the right artists each year.

Independent industry watchdog Fair Play published a report based on a six-month audit of how performance royalties are collected and distributed across the UK nightlife sector. The organisation found that nearly two-thirds of UK electronic music performances fail to produce accurate royalty payments, and Fair Play put this partially down to a problem with technology that tracks the relevant data.

Less than seven percent of UK nightclubs use Music Recognition Technology (MRT), a Shazam-like system that generates reports for performance rights…

Daphni Unveils New Album, ‘Butterfly’

It’s Dan Snaith’s first full-length release under the moniker since 2022

Dan Snaith has announced a new album under his Daphni alias.

Following on from 2022’s Cherry, the 16-track Butterfly features the single ‘Sad Piano House’, which Snaith released in June. He’s also shared two new songs from the album to coincide with its announcement, ‘Lucky’ and ‘Waiting So Long’, the latter of which credits his alternative Caribou alias as a featured artist.

“People understandably always ask about the difference between Caribou and Daphni music – how I decide which is which,” Snaith said of why Caribou is credited on ‘Waiting So Long’. “I think there have been times where the music I’ve made under the two aliases has been farther apart and times –…

Massive Attack Tease New Music Coming in 2026

The band have promised that the release of a “cache of work created in the recent past” is on the way next year

Screenshot

Massive Attack have taken to social media to tease new music.

Writing on Instagram, the group said: “From next year, we will release a cache of work created in the recent past. Tracks will be available physically and digitally via a new label.” They added, however, that this music will not be available for streaming via Spotify, in opposition to the platform’s business practices that many believe short-change artists, as well as CEO Daniel Ek’s continued investments in artificial intelligence military services.

The band also directed fans to a new WhatsApp channel where there will be “direct announcements on 2026 releases and…

Reselling Tickets for Profit to be Outlawed Under New UK Government Plans

Touts and regular people will no longer be allowed to charge anything more than the price at which they bought an event ticket

Reselling event tickets for profit is to be outlawed under new UK government plans reportedly due to be announced this week.

As The Guardian reports, the new rules are due to come into effect amid a long-awaited crackdown on touts and resale platforms such as Viagogo and StubHub, following high-profile cases involving tickets for tours by the likes of Oasis and Taylor Swift in recent years.

Ministers had initially been considering allowing people to resell a ticket for up to 30% above its original face value, when carrying out a consultation process on crackdown plans last year. It’s now emerged, though, that…

FKA twigs – EUXEUA Afterglow

FKA twigs

EUXEUA Afterglow

A hastily assembled ‘part two’ to the Gloucestershire-born singer-producer’s last album fails to live up to their best, finds Liam Inscoe-Jones

Eusexua Afterglow by FKA twigs

For a while, FKA twigs felt imprisoned by her music. “It felt like I’d made this ornate golden birdcage” she told The Guardian in 2019, “everything was so intricate… tapestries and beading and beautiful wirework… I was like, ‘oh my gosh, this is actually a nightmare’”. It’s a sentiment made strange by its context, given as it was on the press run for MAGDALENE, an album in no short supply of intricacy or opulence.

Twigs’ music has always been elaborate. That’s part of what makes her great. When I listen to the brittle shards of…
