Earl Sweatshirt  – Live Laugh Love

Earl Sweatshirt

Live Laugh Love

The ex-Odd Future member grows up, still just as intense as ever

Earl Sweatshirt, in recent years, has come to occupy a space not unlike that of Elliott Smith. If it’s fair to anoint Smith the “patron saint of sad boys,” as a piece by Darran Anderson in tQ earlier this year so aptly did, it’s helpful to think of the ex-Odd Future member (AKA Thebe Kgositsile) as a reluctant prophet for the wounded and weary – an irreverent yet deeply perceptive oracle who continues to capture a generation of chronically online depressives with his grim clarity.

Like Smith, evangelists are drawn to Sweatshirt for the unadulterated intimacy present in his music. ‘Solace’ (a companion piece to the rapper’s…

Sunik Kim – Formenverwandler

Sunik Kim

Formenverwandler

The writer, filmmaker and musician explores time and memory on an album of music that sounds ferocious, ecstatic, and at points playfully absurd

Formenverwandler by Sunik Kim

Every Monday my mobile phone delivers a snide judgment on how much time I spend looking at its screen. It tallies the hours, but it’s all quantity and no quality. It doesn’t grasp when time dragged and when it slipped by, when hours were donated to the attention economy versus when I stole them from my day job. Close to a century ago Virginia Woolf captured duration and sensation in flux in her 1928 novel Orlando in a line Sunik Kim quotes in an essay accompanying her new album, Formenverwandler: “An hour, once it…

The #rechtopdenacht campaign, or “right to the night” sees clubs like Garage Noord and Radio Radio unite to “demand a safe night for all our visitors”

A number of Amsterdam clubs have formed a collective night-time safety campaign after a 17-year-old girl was murdered on the way home from a night out in the city’s Leidseplein district.

The victim, whose family has requested media identify only as “Lisa”, was stabbed to death while cycling home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 20, as NL Times reports. Prior to the attack, she had called police to report that someone was following her. A 22-year-old man is currently in police custody on suspicion of her murder. Authorities have not publicly released his…

The Smiths Drummer Mike Joyce to Publish Autobiography

It follows previous memoirs by fellow former bandmates Morrissey and Johnny Marr

The Smiths drummer Mike Joyce is publishing an autobiography.

The Drums, according to a synopsis, offers a first-hand view of the band’s history, as told by “the self-confessed biggest Smiths fan in the world”. It continues: “His off-piste, frank and witty perspective allows him to re-contextualise fan favourite moments through a beautifully vulnerable, human insight into his life.”

Joyce becomes the third member of The Smiths to publish a memoir, following Morrissey’s 2013 book Autobiography and Johnny Marr’s Set The Boy Free from 2016.

New Modern will publish The Drums on November 6, 2025.

Brian Eno and Beatie Wolfe Announce New Collaborative Album, ‘Liminal’

It’s the two artists’ third album together of 2025

Brian Eno and Beatie Wolfe are releasing another collaborative album together, titled Liminal.

Spanning 11 tracks, the new record follows the duo’s previous two joint albums, Lateral and Luminal, which were released earlier this year. You can listen to lead tracks ‘The Last To Know’ and ‘Ringing Ocean’ below.

In a joint statement, Eno and Wolfe said: “Liminal stands at the point of convergence between Lateral and Luminal. If Lateral is a kind of landscape painting, a sonic place, Luminal is a dream-like awakening, a feeling space. Liminal, the newest addition, is a hybrid of the two, a strange new land with a human living and feeling its way through its mysterious spaces.

“Liminal is set in the borderlands between song and non-song (or ‘nong’…
